I want Gabe to come over to play at my house. Today! Right now is good for playing. Gabe can ride the scooter and I will ride the bike.
Race, Gabe! Run down the hill! Okay. You sit down. I catch you!
Mama, turn on the finkler. The ssssprinkler. Oh my goodness, Gabe can run and jump! I can run too! I need more watermelon. We throw old watermelon to my chickens. Gabe, hold my hand so I can jump too.
Kami and Anna in the wagon. Beau, help push. I’m pulling! Come over here!
At the beach, it’s rocks. Poppy can throw this stick. Phydeaux, get it! My dog is swimming!
I’m reading Poppy’s Bible to him. See, I can read with these glasses.
Sometimes I can ride a boat. This ferry boat goes to Bremerton. I ride this boat to Mimee and Poppy’s house. I go see Mimee.
Anna was playing with my toys. We were playing outside on the poach. The porch.
It’s summer so it’s just time to forage all the time. Me and Iris went out to get blackberries at Mimee’s friends’ house. There were so many and lots were close to the ground so I filled up my belly. We got to walk around and see all the new trees. They will have apples on them, or as I like to say “Apps.” You don’t even need a smart phone to get food from plants.
Mixed in with the blackberries we found salal, blue huckleberries, and thimbleberry plants. I never tried salal before but Mama looked it up in her book and it said “safe” so we all tried some.
By the gardens there are chickens and bees. We feed the chickens some dandelion greens, and watch the bees come to water to bring it back and cool off their hive. I tell them, “drink, bees!”
I did not go to the beach today. Nana and Papa and Mimee and Poppy and Auntie and Iris and Matt went. But I stayed home and took my nap at nap time, and when I woke up I peed and cried and made lonely noises until Mama came and gave me milk.
We came outside. I played with the outside toys and the water and my dog Phydeaux. I peed more.
Eventually Iris came back and we played outside together, sitting in my bucket and picking berries. We take turns bossing each other. That works pretty good but I wish I could pick her up and haul her to the other side of the room too.
No clothes in the summer! When I was a little baby it was cold and we stayed inside and wore coats. Now I am warm and outside and naked for the rest of my life! Sunshine forever! Drink out of the hose always!
More outside, more beach, more nature all the time. I love summer. Except when I miss my nap it makes me grinchy.
We are at Shine and Wolf beach, with our kayaks and shovels. I forgot my swimsuit so I went in the water with my dress for a while. Fortunately Auntie remembered my swimsuit and brought it with her and Iris.
The current is kind of strong because the tide is coming in through a narrow passage. Herons fly above, and I point them out to everyone. Down under the water a hundred little crabs, young dungeness, are running around. I stand in the stream and pet the empty oyster shells. It’s best if Mama holds my hand because I feel pretty off balance in the water. It makes me a little nervous.
We play on the beach too. Hot sand, hot shells, hot driftwood everywhere. I want to sit on Iris’s lap, or lay down. I check in case Matt has milk. He doesn’t.
Gonna take a little rest, eat some seabeans, and ride the boats.
I’m going to be really safe this summer and I’m going on boats and bikes. So we got this life jacket and helmet hat. They make me really big and awkward but I mostly like it. Okay I’m all ready. Let’s go!
