September with Gabe

A Day in the Life

image

In September, Gabe was coming to the white house lots. We had all kinds of different adventures, and as usual we walked, biked, or bussed to all of them! One day we went to Sheridan Park, where we ran races and climbed this climbing wall. We imagined it was a mountain, and the friends took turns pretending to be mountain goats with silly goat voices and curled fingers for horns.

image

Another day we got to visit the Art Ashram all together. Our friends Kai and Aiden came too! We focused on the color orange with leaf etching and got a chance to draw pumpkins and paint together. Orange is the perfect color to study in the fall.

image

A week later, we had a special expedition to Snake Lake Nature Center, which has a beautiful natural playscape where we can slide down a hollow log, use a periscope in a tree house, or use and old fashioned pump for sand and water play. We also walked the half mile loop through the woods. This picture is from when we stopped to check out the turtle vista.

image

Of course, every day we also played at the white house and did big kid jobs. Edie and Gabe can: go potty by themselves, clean up dishes, wipe down the table, pour milk or water from a small pitcher, take care of the playroom, and get shoes and jackets on. They also help feed the chickens!

When the friends were finally worn out, they liked to relax by reading books to each other, or snuggling up to read with Adele. They turned pages and asked great questions about the stories and pictures we read. Some of our favorites are Hungry Caterpillar, Harold and the Purple Crayon, and Pat the Bunny. But did you know Pat the Bunny is about Gabe and Edie? Do not try to read it about Paul and Judy. That will not fly.

Thanks for playing with us, Gabe! Have fun with your new nanny and please come visit again!

Visiting Friends

A Day in the Life

image

This baby needs toys. I will share my spinning rainbow toy with him. This baby is a boy.

Nickel gets a sunflower for me and for Betty and for my friend Abigail. After the library we can go to the farmers market. We can go downtown.

image

There is the black kitty. He is my neighbor. Don’t catch him because he’s scared. Just smell my hand.

Make sure to check out the Huckleberry School page on Facebook … some changes are coming and more of Edie’s pictures and commentary will be available there, while this blog takes a slightly different direction.

Mama, turn on the finkler. The ssssprinkler. Oh my goodness, Gabe can run and jump! I can run too! I need more watermelon. We throw old watermelon to my chickens. Gabe, hold my hand so I can jump too.

Sometimes I can ride a boat. This ferry boat goes to Bremerton. I ride this boat to Mimee and Poppy’s house. I go see Mimee.

Adventures with Betty and Abigail (and Nickel)

A Day in the Life

image

We go on a walk at Snake Lake. Abigail, hold my hand. Gabe hold my hand too. Look at the ducks in a pond! I want to touch ants.

image

I’m in the nest! I’m the mama bird, Betty is the baby bird. No Betty. Get out. I’m in it.

image

Sea weed. Fucus. I don’t want to taste it. It’s yucky. Actually it’s yummy. I can have some more. Abigail and Betty like it. Betty eats it all gone. Pop pop. I want more sea weed on the beach.

image

Three baby tigers at the zoo. See them, Betty? I want a snack. It’s the mama gibbon, right there. Don’t hold my hand.

image

We can go on the carousel. I pick… that one. I ride on the zebra. It’s going up and down. Betty, ride that horse. Abigail, can you ride on a slug?

image

We go to the museum today? Right now? Another friend, it’s Hazel. I’m not all done with lentils. I do this slide all by myself, see? I do it again.

image

Down in the river, come in it with me. I jump off this bridge, okay? I climb down it. Fountains spray me! I like it. Here I found this otter statue. I like these bubbles. My friends are with me in the water. It’s a sunshine day.

Happy Birthday Betty!

I use the garbage truck. Let’s dump water. It’s Make Way for Ducklings. Open presents.

Paint. I’m painting, round and round. I use a yellow. I need a red. Oh it’s purple. Sit with my Mama. I want that cookie. I want another one cookie. Happy birthday Betty! Bye bye!
