Last week we started preparing for the fall and the cold weather by signing up for the YMCA and registering for ballet! Edie did a round of Ballet classes last winter while we waited for the baby to come, and she kept talking about it all through the year, so when we checked out the schedule, we were pretty happy to find ourselves just in time for classes to start.
At first, she was feeling a bit concerned about a new teacher and new classmates, but this morning as we pulled on her polkadot tights she announced, “I’m not nervous anymore; just excited!” Dropping off involved a moment’s hesitation, but she was soon galloping off with three new friends and getting into the scarf twirling in a big way.
Meanwhile, Roly-poly and I checked out the equipment in the preschool/toddler gymnasium. He was so curious and excited to climb over large mats and shapes, and he pulled out the special delighted hyperventilation noise he usually saves for wild man stair climbing. The floor inset trampoline was a bit terrifying until those big kids finally went away, and the ladder to the slide was cooler than escaping to the laundry room. Roly has been considering walking for a while now, and seeing all the big kids run and play was additional inspiration for sure.
What is it? I have a mail, in this bag. Open it Mommy. What is it? It’s from…. Nana and Papa. It’s from California. What’s in here? I have a… dress! A beautiful dress! Oh my goodness! What is these shiny shoes??? Oh, tap shoes! Oh, I see.

We go in Grandpa’s truck to the store for Poppy’s concert. I get a hot coffee please? Vanilla, thank you.

Tonight I will visit Mimee and Poppy, and I tried on my fanciest dress. Wedding Mimee. Outside. No Huckleberries. Why not? Dress on. Huckleberry School. Mhmm. Yeah. Climb climb up. Don’t reach it. Wedding nice. Off. No, on. New wedding dress. Ballet! Shoes on. Green. Green shoes. White shoes. No. Green, blue. On. Ballet ballet ballet. Socks off. Hmmm. Unders off. Pee pee. All done.
It’s remedy day. We just have the boogeriest noses. I can’t take it anymore. For two days I was better, and then I got another yuck. When I got the Bad Cough, it messed up my lungs so now when I get little colds, I cough and cough.
For breakfast we had some vitamin c, and Mama started making a chicken noodle soup. Disappointingly, it has more veggies than noodles. We are drinking tea and eating garlic and grapefruit seed extract and honey and lemon and steam and probiotics and chest rub. My Mama washes the inside of my nose with saline. We both have to get naked and she sits on me in the shower. Green boogers wash down the drain. I feel kind of violated. And really angry and sad. I used to not mind so much, but boogers have been coming out for so many days my nostrils are scabby.
I am almost better. I still have lots of energy to climb up everything and dance and sing and lift my pinky when I drink my tea from a shot glass. Mama laughs at me. What? I’m not joking!
Hi. I didn’t write for a few days. Here’s what happened: I went to the zoo with just my Mama, and saw fish and sea creatures mostly, and I climbed the aquarium stairs a lot. Sunday, I went with Da and Mama to see Anty Elizabeth and baby William. Da took me to the botanical gardens at the university. The next day Grandma took me to Poulsbo. We went to the shoe store and the Loft and now I like salmon burgers.
Today Iris is here and we are doing school. We did Barnyard Dance (Barnyard Dance! (Boynton on Board)) for our meeting. I like holding hands and spinning but some parts are still confusing. However I could dance all day to Pearl Django. We painted on my canvas with my tempera paints, and we are going on a walk next. Iris has big plans for me…
Da and Mama and me came to see Grandpa because of Father day. We had a yummy sausage lunch and then we took turns having naps. Grandma took me to the Proctor Farmer’s Market and I saw some music and some dogs and some flowers. Now I am showing everyone my music on thed tablet. And I am wiggling from my bottom up.
