We caught more lizards and put them in the little pool. One is small and smooth and the other is big and bumpy. Before we got the big one I thought the little one might be lonely so I put the owl statue in the pool to keep him company. I brought them some rocks too. Mama says they like rocks, but I don’t see how the rocks will fit in their mouths… We looked under the mat for spiders but we didn’t really have a way to catch them.
I got in the pool and sat down to look at the lizards. When you touch a lizard you have to use gentle fingers. I don’t really want to mush them now. They are nice. My Mama put the little one on my foot, and he liked it because it made his blood feel warmer. I kind of liked it because I could see him so close, but I kind of didn’t like it because it poked my foot with his tiny tiny feet. Mama helped him get off but I think he doesn’t like being so cold without me. Even though today is really really hot.
We came shopping again. I was very good, looking at cups and sunglasses and bracelets. I like bracelets. The most exciting thing that happened all day was the birds I chased in the foodcourt at Costco. Until we went through this carwash! I whip my head back and forth to see everything, and I clap and wring my hands. I sing a little song and sigh. It’s so beautiful.
I found the mardi gras beads! I am So excited! I put some on my neck and some on my wrist, and I scatter them in the garden to decorate everything. I put them back in the box, then dump it out, then move the box to the sidewalk and fill it back up. I feel with my fingers how some are big and some are small. They make a funny sound rattling in the box, so I fill it and dump it over and over. Then I go back and collect up the ones I dropped other places. I put three on my neck, and those three are tangled with more, so I watch as that wad of necklaces trails along behind me.
I’ve also found my bubbles. I bring them to Mama saying “Bubble? BUBBLE?” She tells me one minute. I put my bubbles in the necklace box and come back over, saying please with my hands and “bubble” with my mouth. Okay, she says. We blow some bubbles but this bubble juice is not very good. We only make three small bubbles each time. I pick up the lid from the grass and put it back on the bottle. More shiney necklaces!
Papa barbequed us up some ribs and they were so good! Mine is like a magic wand; I wave it around reverently and nibble off the edge. Afterward Mama takes all my clothes off and washes me in the little blue pool.
I am playing ball with Mama. I can roll it and catch it when I am sitting down. I can also bounce it on the steps. When Mama has it I get excited and run over to get it, but she reminds me to back up and sit down, so I walk backward to my step and sit down without looking. Sometimes it comes up closer than I thought, but I always finish with my butt on the step. When Mama fakes me out with the ball I laugh and laugh with my muppet voice.
We practice jumping too. Mama says jump jump jump and hops aRound the room. This is hillariously entertaining. I say “mup!” and try to jump too. I can’t seem to quite lift off but it feels awesome when Mama helps me count 123 and jumps me.
Still practicing my chair climbing. I have completely mastered Gramie’s brocade chair. Next week I’m hitting the Himalayas; wanna come?
We are at the art walk in Ojai, and we saw a disturbing puppet show, sculptures, and a pretty singer-songwriter. I danced and wiggled for the singer but for the puppets I put my butt down and made sure my Mama was right behind me. In the morning we went to the community church and I watched a show in the nursury.
There are lots of dogs here but I can’t find my Phydeaux.
I’m dancing with Nana! We are listening to oldies and raising the roof and doing the twist.
Papa is making us salmon and eggplant for dinner. I tried some eggplant and it was yummy. I can’t wait to eat the whole thing.
I can get into chairs by byself now, by the way.
Today is very sunny but not too hot or windy. I slept a long time because I was so tired from yesterday, and when I got up my Mama and I cuddled in bed. Then she put on our swimsuits and I ate a banana while we walked to the pool. I like the pool better now. Mama showed me how to climb in and out. I can do it almost by myself. I just need help holding a hand to keep my balance when I step in. Today I like splashing with my hands and also sitting on the edge and splashing with my feet. I’m practicing walking on the ledge that is a little deeper, up to my chest. It’s just hard to keep my balance with that much water on me. I like holding the railing too.
On our walk to the pool we saw three dogs. I miss Phydeaux, I told my Mama so. I fell down only two times, but the second time I broke the skin on my knees and now I can see some blood. Not too much though. It doesn’t hurt anymore.
I am playing at the playground in the Zoo. I love the sand pit and climbing on the benches and egg statues with other kids. I climbed on that hill behind me. It was really slippery and I got stuck. Then a kid as big as Iris crashed me, so I didn’t want to play there anymore. There are so many cool rocks and stumps to climb on though, which is perfect because I Love climbing on everything. I’m really happy so I’m singing a song too. Next I’m going to ride on the train.
I am watching the gibbons at the Santa Barbara Zoo. They are yelling and playing! They say “ooooOoo” and I tell them “OOoo Ooo.” I love them and want to be with them so I try to climb through the fence. But there is a moat too. I have a golden gibbon at home just like this one. I got him at the Portland Zoo because those gibbons were so nice and try to hold my hand. I will snuggle him later.
Nana is showing me the birds and Papa is pushing the stroller. I like the cockatoos and the pink flamingos.
Zoos are cool except they always have these irritating enclosures everywhere so I can’t go touch stuff.
